Luckily Justine and I had some help in picking 6 finalists. Ashley from Hi-Fi Weddings and Melanie from You Are My Fave browsed through the submissions and we were able to narrow down the entries. Now it's up to you guys to help us find the winner! We will be presenting the finalists here and over on Urban Scarlet this week. Just let us know in the comment section how much you love each project.
The first finalist project comes from Rebekah who has a pretty blog called A Bit Of Sunshine. What I love most about the project is that it's so simple and quick, and that anybody can do it at home. Tonight even, if you like. Yet, it makes such a great impact. Check it out:
My name is Rebekah Gough and I have a last minute submission for the great Party DIY Challenge.
First of all I adore hosting big parties and coming up with the perfect theme and decoration. I love how fun it makes the time spent with friends and loved ones special and memorable. But this past year I started to realize that as a busy Mom of three very young children what really needed some good old fashion intention was my dating life with my sweet husband. I started a feature on my blog called Dinner at Eight with the intention of putting our kids to bed early once in awhile and throwing a mini party for each other as a way to reconnect during our super busy lives on a small budget. No baby sitter fees or expensive dinners necessary.
The project I am submitting is for a virtually free little mini bunting I made for a Mexican Fiesta I hosted a few weeks back. Simple items I had on hand became the centerpiece.
I used:
mini doilies, tissue paper, bakers twine, candle sticks, double sided tape and scissors and whipped this together in no time.
you simply
1. fold some doilies into thirds and snip a tiny slit at the top of the folded edge.
2. cut some strips of tissue paper and fold them in half and fringe the ends.
3. string your little paper decorations on some bakers twine, secure with the double sided table and hang between two candle sticks for some adorable mood lighting.

I have found that putting in a little thought and intention for our date nights at home really makes it feel like a mini party. We relax, reconnect and celebrate our relationship - our kids see the importance of Mom and Dads relationship and I get to have a little fun too!
